Three of a family killed, 14 injured in Bogra road crash

Three members of the same family were killed and 14 others injured after a microbus overturned on the Dhaka–Rangpur Highway in Sherpur upazila on Wednesday morning.

The victims were travelling home for Eid-ul-Fitr when the driver lost control of the vehicle in the Chonka area around 7:30am, causing it to hit a road divider and overturn. The vehicle later caught fire after its gas cylinder ignited.

According to police and fire service officials, 17 members of the same family were travelling in the microbus from Dhaka to Kaunia in Rangpur.

The deceased were identified as Shiuli Begum, 48, Mominul Islam Rintu, 45, and Taiyaba Khatun, 12—all from the same extended family.

Four critically injured passengers were rescued and admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra. Another injured person was taken to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex.

Officer-in-charge Raish Uddin of Highway Police, Sherpur Police Station, said the accident may have occurred after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Fire Inspector Baktiyar Uddin of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence said firefighters brought the blaze under control and carried out rescue operations.
