The upazila administration conducted a price monitoring drive on oil and gas at Taherpur Municipal Market in Bagmara on Saturday.
During the drive, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Saiful Islam Bhuiya fined two traders Tk 1,500 for selling LPG gas at prices higher than the government-fixed rate.
Two cases were also filed against them under relevant sections of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, according to the administration.
Saiful Islam Bhuiya said that taking advantage of the ongoing war and crisis in the Middle East, a group of dishonest traders has been trying to charge extra money from consumers.
After becoming aware of the matter, the upazila administration decided to monitor the market.
As a result, two traders were fined for selling gas at higher prices.
He added that the drive will continue during the ongoing Ramadan and ahead of Eid to ensure that the general public does not suffer.
