Work on eight development projects worth approximately Tk 17.11 crore has been launched in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur. Member of Parliament for Gazipur-3 Prof Dr SM Rafiqul Islam Bacchu formally inaugurated the projects on Thursday.
Shahed Akhtar, chief engineer of Sreepur Municipality, said that two road development projects worth about Tk 1 crore will be implemented in the municipal area under the Annual Development Programme (ADP).
Sreepur Upazila Engineer Touhid Ahmed said that six road development works under four separate projects have been initiated in the upazila. These projects aim to improve rural road infrastructure and ease transportation difficulties for local residents.
The Shimlapara–Joynatoli–Borobaid road will be developed using uni-block pavement. The road will be constructed by Shah Enterprise at a cost of Tk 2.37 crore. Another road will be implemented by Amjad Traders at a cost of Tk 3.40 crore.
A second road under the same project—the Dhonua–Maona Bazar road—will also be repaired and widened. The work will be carried out by Don Enterprise at a cost of Tk 3.40 crore and is scheduled for completion by January next year.
Under a rehabilitation programme for rural roads damaged by Cyclone Amphan and subsequent flooding, the Rajbari UPC (RHD Naliartiki)–Faigan Kolighat Bazar Road in the Sreepur section will be repaired. Amjad Traders will implement the project at a cost of Tk 2.89 crore.
Two more projects under the Rural Road and Culvert Maintenance Programme include the repair of the Maona GC–Gazipur Bazar GC road and the Maona Chowrasta–Ujilab road. The first road will be repaired by Ma Enterprise at a cost of Tk 1.91 crore and is expected to be completed by May.
The second road will be constructed by SM Enterprise at a cost of Tk 2.08 crore with completion also targeted for May.
