Police have yet to trace a businessman in Khulna who went missing 10 days ago. Kazi Nizam Uddin Sujon, 35, went missing on February 21 after he left home to offer Taraweeh prayers, according to his family. After failing to find him despite extensive searches, victim’s father Kazi Sobhan filed a general diary (GD) with the local police station.
Sujon’s family also handed over a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday, seeking his intervention to rescue the businessman. Deputy Commissioner ASM Jamshed Khondkar received the memorandum and assured the family of administrative support in efforts to rescue Sujon.
In the memorandum, Sujon’s mother said her son has no political affiliations and has never been involved in any political activity. He managed his father’s business operations and had no known disputes or cases against him. Apart from his residence and business premises, he did not frequently visit other places.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the memorandum, Sujon’s wife Nabila Rahman said the Deputy Commissioner assured them that the issue would be discussed at the district law and order committee meeting and that the application would be forwarded to the Prime Minister.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of the local police station Mizanur Rahman said there has been no significant progress in the investigation so far. Sub-Inspector Jewel Rana, assigned to deal with the case, is working on it with priority, he added.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is also conducting a separate inquiry. PBI Superintendent of Police Reshma Sharmin said the agency is making all possible efforts and will inform the media if there are any positive developments.
