SM Zilani: Will establish industries to create jobs for locals

Newly elected lawmaker of Gopalganj-3 (Kotalipara-Tungipara) constituency, SM Zilani, has pledged to promote employment-oriented development by establishing industries in the area to create job opportunities for local residents.

He made the remarks on Friday while speaking to local journalists at his residence in Patgati village under Tungipara upazila.

SM Zilani won the seat with 60,163 votes, while his nearest rival, independent candidate Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, received 33,867 votes.

Zilani said that although development has taken place in the constituency, there has been no planned, employment-focused progress. “I want to ensure development that directly creates jobs. By setting up mills and factories, I will work to generate employment for the people of this area,” he said.

He also expressed his commitment to combating drug abuse and advancing education, healthcare, communication infrastructure, and women’s development. He pledged to transform Kotalipara-Tungipara into a region of peace and harmony.

Reflecting on his campaign, Zilani said he personally visited voters door-to-door instead of organizing large motorcades. “I reached out to grassroots people and spoke with them. They accepted me as one of their own. I will continue to stand by them in the future,” he added.

Calling on his political rivals to engage in constructive politics, he said, “Practice positive politics and go to the people. If the public accepts you, we will welcome you.”

Regarding his electoral promises, Zilani said he remains committed to fulfilling them. “Ignoring many pressures and obstacles, the general people of Kotalipara-Tungipara voted for me and stood by my side. I respect their trust and will honour it by implementing my commitments,” he stated.

It is noteworthy that the constituency is widely known as the electoral seat of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
