Law enforcement agencies recovered seven crude bombs from a pond in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Friday. A bomb disposal unit of 9th Infantry Division recovered the bombs from the bank of the pond around 8:30 am.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station, Mohammad Nasir Ahmed, confirmed the matter.
He said that three fish traders cast nets in the pond to catch fish. While pulling the net, a bag surfaced along with the fish. After noticing bomb-like objects inside the bag, one of them called 999, prompting law enforcement agencies to arrive at the scene. Later, they recovered the bombs from the pond.
Fisherman Jahangir Alam said that three of them, who are fish traders, cast nets into the pond beside the college to catch fish. While pulling up the net, a bag tied with bricks came up along with the fish.
After getting information, personnel from Army, RAB, Police, and the 8th Engineer Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division arrived at the spot and recovered the bombs. The recovered crude bombs are currently in police custody.
