2 killed as bus overturns in Comilla

Two passengers were killed and at least 10 others injured when a bus lost control and overturned in the Turnipara area of Eliotganj in Comilla on the Dhaka–Chittagong highway.

The accident occurred around 10:30pm on Thursday on the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway, Eliotganj Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Ruhul Amin confirmed.

Sub-Inspector Fazlur Rahman of the highway police said a Star Line Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka to Feni lost control at the Turnipara U-turn and collided with a microbus.

The bus then hit the road divider and overturned onto the Dhaka-bound lane. As a result, the microbus was thrown aside and came to rest near the Chittagong-bound lane.

Two bus passengers died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Saidul Haque Majumder, 34, son of Mujibul Haque Majumder of Uttar Anandapur village under Phulgazi upazila in Feni, and Arman Hossain, 16, son of late Abul Bashar of Char Fakira village under Companiganj upazila in Noakhali.

At least 10 injured persons were rescued by local residents and police and taken to different hospitals for treatment.
