The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three key suspects in connection with the brutal killing of Khokon Das (50), a local medicine shop owner and mobile financial service agent, in Shariatpur.
A press release from the RAB Press Wing identified the arrested as Sohag, Rabbi, and Palash. RAB-14, led by Company Commander ASP Shahjahan, conducted a pre-dawn raid around 1:00am on Sunday in the Bajitpur area of Kishoreganj district to apprehend the suspects.
Shariatpur Superintendent of Police Rawnak Jahan stated that before his death, Khokon Das had identified the attackers by name. According to police, on the night of 31 December 2025, around 9:30pm, Das was returning home from Keharbhanga Bazar when three to four assailants ambushed him near Tilai. They attacked him with sharp weapons, causing severe injuries, and looted his cash. When they realized he recognized some of them, they allegedly attempted to burn him alive by pouring petrol over his body. Local residents, responding to his screams, forced the attackers to flee.
Das was admitted to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities said the arrested individuals are reportedly involved in criminal activities.
