Doctor reinstated at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital after dispute with Health DG

The doctor who got into a verbal dispute with the Director-General (DG) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Dr Md Abu Jafor, during his visit to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, has been reinstated to his previous post.

Dr Dhandeb Chandra Barman, who had been removed from his role as Residential Surgeon (Casualty) and given a show-cause notice, was restored to his position after authorities found his written explanation satisfactory. He has already rejoined his duties.

The reinstatement order was issued Wednesday, signed by the hospital’s director, Brigadier General Md Golam Ferdous. Assistant Director (Administration) Muhammad Mainuddin Khan confirmed that the order took effect the same day.

Speaking Thursday morning, Dr Barman said, “The authorities were satisfied with my explanation and reinstated me to my previous post. I have resumed work.”

According to the official letter, Dr Barman was issued a show-cause notice on December 6 for “discourteous and inappropriate behavior” during the DG’s inspection of the hospital’s casualty operating theater. He was also relieved of his responsibility as casualty OT in-charge. In his written reply, he apologized for the incident and pledged not to repeat such behavior.

The hospital forwarded his explanation to the DGHS. The DG later accepted the report, noting that his response was satisfactory, and instructed that he be reinstated as casualty OT in-charge.

The incident occurred on December 6 when the DG attended a seminar at the Shahid President Ziaur Rahman Auditorium of Mymensingh Medical College. Before the seminar, he toured the hospital and questioned why there was a table inside the casualty OT. Dr Barman reportedly argued with him during the inspection, prompting the disciplinary action. He submitted his response within the required 24 hours.
