National Livestock Week-2025 began across the country on Wednesday with colourful rallies, livestock fairs and awareness activities under the theme ‘Indigenous breeds, modern technology: Development will advance through the livestock ‘.
In Jamalpur, the program was inaugurated with a rally, brought out from Foujdari Mor in the town in the morning. Led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali, the rally paraded the main roads before ending at the Old Police Lines ground. A discussion meeting was held there with District Livestock Officer Dr Md Sanowar Hossain in the chair. Speakers, including Additional Superintendent of Police Yeahia Al Mamun, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Azizul Haque, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Mohammad Alam Sharif Khan and District Fisheries Officer ANM Ashraful Kabir, stressed the need for using modern technology to increase production and ensure quality. A total of 30 livestock stalls have been set up at the ground.
In Bagerhat, the National Livestock Week-2025 began with a colourful rally that moved through various roads of the town. The programme, held under the same national theme, included inspection of livestock fair stalls and a discussion. Deputy Commissioner Golam Md Baten, speaking as chief guest, termed the livestock sector a key pillar of nutrition, employment and the rural economy, and emphasized the combined advancement of indigenous breeds and modern technologies. District Livestock Officer Mohammad Saheb Ali presided over the event, which was attended by officials, farmers and representatives of different organizations.
At Fulchhari upazila in Gaibandha, Livestock Services Week and Exhibition-2025 was launched with support from the Livestock and Dairy Development Project. A discussion and prize-giving ceremony was held on the Upazila Veterinary Hospital premises, chaired by Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Md Jahirul Islam. UNO Jagatbandhu Mondal, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mintu Miah and Officer-in-Charge of Fulchhari Police Station Mazharul Islam, among others, underscored further development of the livestock sector to meet protein demand and called for creating more entrepreneurs. Over 20 stalls are displaying various animals and birds from the upazila.
In Sreepur of Gazipur, Gopalganj and Kaliganj of Jhenaidah, the week is also being marked with rallies, livestock exhibitions, discussions, free medical camps, vaccination drives and awareness programmes, all highlighting the role of native breeds, modern technology and trained farmers in achieving self-sufficiency in milk, egg and meat production.
