4,500 farmers get free seeds, fertilizers in Gopalganj

In a bid to boost boro rice production, small and marginal farmers in Gopalganj have received free seeds and fertilizers under the government’s incentive and rehabilitation programme.

Seeds and fertilizers were distributed among the farmers at a programme jointly organized by the upazila administration and the Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office at the Upazila Parishad hall room on Tuesday afternoon.

Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer M Rakibul Hasan presided over the event, conducted by Assistant Plant Protection Officer Md Liakat Hossain. Additional Deputy Director (Agriculture) of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Khamarbari, Gopalganj, agriculturist Bidhan Roy, spoke as special guest, while Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Mafroza Akter delivered the keynote.

Later, the guests handed over incentive seeds and fertilizer to male and female farmers.

Mafroza Akter said that under the 2025–26 fiscal year incentive scheme, 8,000 kilograms of hybrid boro rice seed have been distributed free of cost among 4,000 farmers. In addition, 330 farmers each received 5 kg of Ufshi boro seed and 10 kg each of DAP and MOP fertilizer.

With these inputs, a total of 4,330 farmers in Gopalganj Sadar upazila will cultivate boro rice on 4,330 bighas of land, which is expected to significantly increase boro production in the area.
