The court has granted a five-day remand for Limon Mia, 34, accused in the murder case of Tawseef Rahman, 17, son of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman.
Judge of Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-5 Md Ashiqur Rahman granted the remand for the accused on Thursday afternoon.
Public Prosecutor (PP) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Court, Ali Ashraf Masum, said that the court granted a first spell of five-day remand for Limon on 15 November. On completion of the remand, the investigating officer produced him before the court and sought a further seven-day remand on Thursday. Following the hearing, the court granted a five-day remand.
Abdur Rafiq, Court Inspector of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said that Rajpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman has been assigned as the investigating officer in this high-profile case. He himself produced Limon before the court and applied for a seven-day remand. After the court granted five days, the accused was taken back to the police station for further questioning.
It may be mentioned that Limon Mia, a resident of Fulchhari upazila in Gaibandha, had been receiving financial assistance from Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman’s family for a long time. However, after that support was stopped, he allegedly became enraged and, on 13 November, went to the judge’s rented flat in Dabtalay area of Rajshahi city, where he is accused of killing Tawseef. At that time, there was also an attempt to kill the judge’s wife, Tasmin Nahar Lucy (44). Limon himself was injured in the incident.
Later, Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman filed a case with Rajpara Police Station as the complainant, following which police arrested Limon from Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital.
