Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-2) has rescued eight hostages, including six women and two children, from a suspected human traffickers’ hideout in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
Four alleged traffickers were detained during the operation.
The detainees are Asma, 19, Shabnur, 20, Zahura, 43, and Sahara Khatun, 62 — all from the Panchhari area of Sabrang union. Another suspect, Motaleb alias Kala Badda, 30, is currently on the run.
Teknaf BGB-2 Commander Lt Col Ashikur Rahman said the raid was conducted late at night following a tip-off that several people hoping to go abroad had been held hostage at the home of Abdul Motaleb, son of the late Afaz Uddin.
BGB members cordoned off the house, prompting some suspects to flee. Four were detained, and the eight hostages were later rescued during a search of the premises.
According to BGB, initial interrogation of the detainees and statements from the victims have provided key information about human trafficking networks operating in the area.
The force said it remains committed to safeguarding border security and ensuring public safety.
