Banned Chhatra League blocks highway in Gopalganj

Leaders and activists of the banned Awami League-affiliated student organization staged a protest by blocking the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj, as part of the Awami League's shutdown program.

They obstructed the road by placing tree trunks on it.

The blockade took place around 8am on Monday near Tilchara Bazar in Kashiani upazila.

During the protest, various types of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway.

Videos of the blockade quickly circulated on Facebook.

Eyewitnesses reported that around 7:45am, several members of the banned student organization placed tree trunks on the Dhaka-Khulna highway near Tilchara Bazar, obstructing traffic for approximately half an hour. Numerous vehicles remained stuck on both sides of the highway during this period.

Upon receiving information, police from Kashiani police station arrived at the scene, prompting the protesters to flee.

The police subsequently removed the tree trunks and restored normal traffic flow on the highway.

Kashiani police station officer-in-charge Kamal Hossain stated that some individuals attempted to block the Dhaka-Khulna highway, but fled upon noticing the presence of law enforcement. He added that the area remains under the control of local law enforcement authorities.
