Awami League has suspended its Barisal city unit Religious Affairs Secretary Advocate Obaedullah Saju, for suing Barguna Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Gazi Tarek Salman over his use of a portrait of Bangabandhu drawn by a child.
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister, made the decision on Friday, asking the party's high command to explain why Saju should not be expelled permanently.

CollectedSaju, who is the president of the Barisal Bar Association, filed the Tk5 crore case with Barisal Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on June 7.

Party sources who were present at Gonobhaban on Friday afternoon confirmed the matter.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said they expelled Saju as per the Article 47 (Ka) of the party constitution.

CollectedPrior to the suspension, Awami League leaders placed the issue of the UNO being sued in a meeting of the party's local government election nomination board.
At the meeting, Hasina asked party leaders about Saju, ordering the leaders of Barisal division to take organisational action against him.
