Rail communication between Dhaka and northern regions on Monday morning after being suspended for six hours due to the derailment of two coaches of the Panchagarh-bound Panchagarh Express at Bhangoora in Pabna.
The incident took place around 4am on Monday near Bhangoora Railway Station. Following the completion of rescue operations, train services restarted around 10am
According to railway sources, the Panchagarh Express left Dhaka for Panchagarh at 11:30pm on Sunday. At around 4am on Monday, when the train reached near Bhangoora Railway Station in Bhangoora upazila, two of its coaches derailed. Many passengers got off the train in panic, while police from Bhangoora Police Station soon arrived at the scene.
Rescue work began around 7am, nearly three hours after the incident. Najib Kayser, Divisional Engineer-2 of the Pakshi Division of Western Railway, confirmed that recovery efforts started at 7am and were completed by 10am, after which train operations returned to normal.
Eyewitnesses reported that passengers suffered due to the derailment. However, no casualties occurred.
Bhangoora Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam said the derailment took place at 4am on Monday and that police ensured overall passenger safety.
