A dump truck driver and owner were killed when their vehicle was struck by a train at an unguarded railway crossing in Gazipur’s Sadar Thana area early Wednesday.
The Dhaka-bound Panchagarh Express, which had departed from Panchagarh, collided with the dump truck. The accident occurred on Tuesday around 11:30pm at the railway crossing in Dakshinkhan (Akkas Market) area of the city.
Joydebpur Railway Junction Station Master Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the incident on Wednesday at 10:30am.
The deceased are Ujjal Hossain, 42, truck driver, son of Kurman Ali of Purbo Para village, Ghior upazila, Manikganj, and Babul Hossain, 55, dump truck owner, son of Shah Alam of Abdullahpur (Kamar Para) area, Uttara West Police Station, Dhaka. Their bodies have been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue.
Tonggi Railway Station Police Outpost In-Charge Mohammad Ali Jinnah said the Dhaka-bound Panchagarh Express, after leaving Panchagarh, reached Dakshinkhan area of Gazipur metropolis where a dump truck was crossing the railway tracks. The high-speed train’s impact crushed the dump truck, seriously injuring both the driver and the owner.
Locals rescued Babul Hossain and took him to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Injured driver Ujjal Mia was taken to Tonggi’s Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where he was also pronounced dead after examination by the on-duty doctor.
