Mallick: Militancy in past 18yrs was staged drama

Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Md Rezaul Karim Mallick has said there was no militancy in Bangladesh in the last 18 years, dismissing past concerns as a “drama.”

“The militancy was a mere drama in the country in the past 18 years. In the true sense of the term, there was no militancy in Bangladesh,” Mallick said while speaking as the chief guest in an anti-terrorism civic rally in the conference room of Shariatpur Police Lines on Sunday.

He said they have got a "new Bangladesh" after the July uprising and that they are working to pursue its spirit to build a better Bangladesh.

The senior officer said they want to make Shariatpur free from drugs, terrorism and extortionists.

Mallick said he asked all officers-in-charge and police officers in Shariatpur and Madaripur to maintain law and order in the areas. “We want cooperation from all to uphold law and order,” he said.
