Truck breakdown sparks 8km tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong highway

Traffic moved slowly over an 8km stretch on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the Gazaria area of Munshiganj on Wednesday after a vehicle broke down and disrupted the flow of traffic.

Around 6:30am, the goods-laden truck broke down on the Meghna Bridge, causing a traffic disruption.

The Highway Police later removed it with a tow truck around 8:30am.

Although traffic resumed somewhat after the removal, the buildup of vehicles led to slow movement over an approximately 8km area on the Dhaka-bound lane.

However, the situation has been gradually improving as the day progresses, said Md Shawkat Hossain, in-charge of the Vaberchar highway police outpost in Gazaria.

He added that the broken-down truck was promptly removed from the scene, and although traffic is still a bit slow, conditions are returning to normal.
