Police have arrested five individuals, including the prime accused, in connection with the rape of a woman at her home in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla.
Superintendent of Police Nazir Ahmed Khan confirmed the arrests on Sunday morning.
According to police, the incident took place on Thursday night when the accused, Fazor Ali, 38, forcibly entered the the house by breaking down the door and raped her.
The survivor filed a case with Muradnagar police station on Friday afternoon.
Fazor Ali was arrested around 5am on Sunday from the Sayedabad area in Dhaka. He was later brought back to Comilla for legal proceedings.
Four others—Md Sumon, Ramzan Ali, Md Arif, and Md Anik—were arrested for filming the assault and circulating the video on social media.
Quoting the survivor, police said she had been visiting her father’s house with her children for the past 15 days. Around 10pm on Thursday, Fazor appeared at the house and demanded she open the door. When she refused, he broke in and raped her.
A neighbor said they heard loud noises from the house that night and rushed over with others to find the door broken. When they realized the woman had been assaulted, they beat Fazor Ali and sent him to a hospital. However, Fazor managed to escape later.
Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan said police conducted overnight raids and arrested the four individuals involved in recording and sharing the video. Fazor Ali was tracked down early Sunday in Dhaka.
“All five are in custody, and further legal steps are underway,” the police official added.
