A group of angry men vandalized the auditorium of Rabindra Kacharibari in the Shahjadpur municipality area of Sirajganj on Tuesday, protesting an alleged attack on a visitor over a motorcycle parking issue.
Aslam Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahjadpur police station, said a visitor identified as Shahnewaz, along with his family, went to Rabindra Kacharibari to visit the site on Sunday.
He also bought a ticket from the counter but did not receive the token for parking his motorcycle after paying the fee, the officer said.
After visiting the site, a staff member standing at the main gate of Rabindra Kacharibari asked for the token for his motorcycle.
As Shahnewaz failed to provide it, a scuffle broke out between them.
Later, the staff of Rabindra Kacharibari, along with the custodian, took him to the office room, where they allegedly beat him over the issue.
Local BNP leaders, along with Shahnewaz’s guardian, later rescued him.
A written complaint was lodged with Shahjadpur police station that day.
Protesting the incident, local residents formed a human chain in front of the Press Club premises in Sirajganj, demanding punishment for those involved in the assault on the visitor.
Later, a group of miscreants swooped on the auditorium of Rabindra Kacharibari and vandalized the window panes, door, and furniture of the auditorium.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional police have been deployed at Rabindra Kacharibari to avert further trouble, the officer said.
