124 shelters opened in Khagrachhari amid landslides risk

Amid fears of landslides triggered by heavy rain, the local administration has opened 124 shelters in Khagrachhari district to facilitate the relocation of hill area residents and ensure their safety.

So far, 55 people have taken refuge, according to officials.

The district administration is supplying food to those staying in the shelters.

Nazmun Ara Sultana, deputy director of the Local Government Department and Administrator of Khagrachhari Municipality, said the local administration is fully prepared to tackle potential landslides and flooding.

“In some areas, landslides have already occurred and the debris has been cleared. Residents of high-risk zones have been urged to move to safer locations,” she added.
