2 Bangladeshis injured in BSF firing at Brahmanbaria border

Two Bangladeshi youths were injured in firing by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Kasba border in Brahmanbaria.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30am on Sunday across the border in the Shyamnagar area of Khadla in the upazila.

The injured have been identified as Md Robiul Islam, 28, son of Sher Ali from Shyampur village in the Khadla camp area and Md Azad Hossain, 26, from the same locality.

Both are currently undergoing treatment in Brahmanbaria and are reportedly out of danger.

According to multiple sources from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents, around 1:30am, six individuals from the locality crossed more than 150 yards beyond the barbed wire fence into Indian territory.

At that time, BSF personnel opened fire with shotguns, injuring the two men.

Local sources reported that, ahead of Eid, smuggling operations have intensified, particularly involving cattle and spices from India.

Additionally, items such as cosmetics and firecrackers are being brought in.

Despite frequent seizures of large volumes of Indian goods by the BGB, smuggling activities continue unabated.

Although the BGB has been working to raise public awareness about border regulations, the outcomes have reportedly been limited.

Lieutenant Colonel Ziaur Rahman, commander of the BGB 60 Battalion, confirmed the incident and the injuries.

He said that a flag meeting with the BSF is scheduled for the afternoon to discuss the details of the shooting.
