17 pushed-in individuals detained at Thakurgaon border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 17 individuals for illegally entering Bangladesh from India via the Haripur border in Thakurgaon.

They were arrested from the Rampur border area of Bhaturia union in Haripur upazila of the district around 5am on Saturday.

According to BGB sources, a patrolling team of Chapsar BOP under 42 BGB Dinajpur Battalion saw their suspicious movements at a place called Rampur, about 20 yards inside Bangladesh from the border main pillar 348/2S.

Quoting BGB and locals, OC Mohammad Zakaria Mandal said: "Around 5am, a patrolling team of 42 BGB detained 17 Bangladeshi nationals while they were illegally pushed into Bangladesh from India, 20 yards inside Bangladesh from the border main pillar 348/2 S of Rampur Chapsar BOP in Bhaturia union of Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon at around 5am on Saturday. Among them, there are four women and 13 men."

When contacted, Lt Col Tanzir Ahmed, commander of Thakurgaon 50 BGB, said: "I have heard news that 17 people were detained for illegally entering Bangladesh from India. However, the incident took place in the area under the control of 42 BGB Dinajpur Battalion."
