An explosion caused by a gas line leak in a house in Gazipur has left three people, including a woman, severely burned.
The victims are currently receiving emergency treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, at a residence in the Hurricane area under the Gacha police station.
The injured are garment worker Haris Mia, 50, his wife Ayesha Akter, 40, and their son Moinul Islam, 12.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gacha police station, Ali Mohammad Rashed, confirmed the incident.
The family, originally from Sunamganj in Sylhet, had been living in a rented house in Gazipur.
According to OC Rashed, quoting the victim’s relative, Lipi Akter, the explosion occurred in the morning while lighting the stove for cooking. The blast injured the entire family—father, mother, and their school-going son. Initial reports suggest that gas had accumulated in the room due to a leak in the line.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a residential physician at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said over the phone that three members of the same family were brought in from Gazipur around noon. Haris Mia has burns over 88% of his body, Ayesha Akter has 90%, and their son Moinul Islam 85%.
All three are in critical condition. After evaluation in the emergency department, they will be referred to different wards in the intensive care unit (ICU).
