Chhatra Dal leader accused in Pabna schoolgirl abduction

A case has been filed against two individuals, including a Chhatra Dal leader, for allegedly abducting and attempting to rape a ninth grader schoolgirl in Pabna.

The victim’s father lodged the case at the Chatmohar Police Station around 10:30pm on Tuesday.

The accused are Raton Hossain, 25, organizational secretary of Haripur Union Chhatra Dal and son of Tozammel Hossain Toju from Tebaria Mollapara village, and his accomplice Mamun Hossain, 18, son of Mohsin Hossain from the same village.

According to the case statement, the incident took place around 8:30pm on Tuesday.

The victim said that she had been harassed for a long time by Raton, Mamun, and a group of local troublemakers on her way to school. Despite repeatedly rejecting their advances, the harassment continued.

"On Tuesday night, while most villagers were performing Tarawih prayers and my father was at the market, a group of men arrived at our house on three to four motorcycles. When we refused to open the door, they broke in by force," she said.

She further added: "Raton and Mamun grabbed me and tried to take me outside to assault me. My mother and I screamed for help, which alerted the neighbors.”

She also said: “As people gathered, the attackers fled the scene. Later, with the help of the locals, we filed a case at the police station."

Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahjahan Ali of Chatmohar Police Station, the investigating officer, said: “We are actively working to arrest the accused and expect to apprehend them soon.”

Meanwhile, Haripur Union Chhatra Dal President Rahat Hossain acknowledged that the accused Raton Hossain is an organizational leader of their unit.

“If Raton is found guilty, disciplinary action will be taken against him. We want justice for the victim,” he said.
