Mob kills two robbers in Shariatpur

Two people were killed in a mob beating after a robbery attempt on the Kirtinasha River in Shariatpur.

They were captured around 11pm on Friday in the Tetulia area of Domshar Union.

On Friday night, robbers attempted to hijack a bulkhead in the Rajarchar area of Madaripur. Locals chased them, forcing them to flee toward Tetulia in Shariatpur. There, locals blocked their escape using a bulkhead. The robbers threw hand bombs and fired indiscriminately, injuring several people.

As they abandoned their speedboat and tried to escape, locals captured seven of them, beat them, and handed them over to the police. They were taken to the district hospital, where two were declared dead.

Four others, injured by gunfire, were also hospitalized, with two transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Dr Muntasir Khan of the district hospital confirmed that four people were brought in with gunshot wounds, two of whom were sent to Dhaka. 

Shariatpur Superintendent of Police Md Nazrul Islam said that seven robbers were captured with locals' help. Two died, and five are under treatment. Several locals were also injured. One weapon was recovered, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
