The hanging body of a police constable was recovered at his home in Mirpur upazila, Kushtia, on Wednesday afternoon.
The body of Rakibul Islam Rocky, 26, was found in his home bedroom, near Katlamari Eidgah in Sadarpur union of the upazila, Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mominul Islam confirmed.
It was later sent to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy.
Rakibul Islam Rocky was the son of Samu Ali from Katlamari village in Sadarpur union of the upazila.
According to local police sources, Rakibul came home on leave on January 21.
It is believed that while staying at home, he hanged himself from a bamboo beam in his bedroom around 9am.
Later, family members informed the police about the incident.
The OC said that Rakibul’s father is involved in various businesses and has a significant amount of debt.
"He used to ask his son for money, which reportedly put Rakibul under mental stress. It is believed that this financial pressure led him to take his own life by hanging himself in his bedroom," said the OC.
The OC further said that upon receiving the information, the police recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.
