BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday said no local government elections will be accepted before the national election.
The national election must be held by December, and the interim government has no mandate over local government elections, Salahuddin said while speaking as chief guest at a rally organized by the Cox’s Bazar BNP at the Bir Muktijoddha Math in Cox’s Bazar.
He urged the interim government to immediately announce a national election roadmap as a demonstration of goodwill.
The Awami League's political demise has already taken place in Bangladesh, he said, adding that the "burial" of Awami League’s politics is complete.
Citing a report from the UN Human Rights Commission, he alleged that Hasina has been labelled a mass murderer.
Therefore, he argued that neither the Awami League nor Hasina has any right to continue participating in politics in Bangladesh.
The local BNP unit organized the rally to demand an election roadmap aimed at stabilizing the prices of essential commodities, improving the deteriorating law and order situation, ensuring a swift transition to democracy, and countering various conspiracies and malicious attempts by what they described as the ousted fascist regime.
