SP detained from Bangladesh Police Academy

A superintendent of police has been arrested at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi.

Confirming the incident, Sarwar Jahan, additional deputy inspector general (Crime Management) of the Rajshahi Range, said on Wednesday that detectives from Dhaka took SP Tanvir Salehin Emon away the previous night.

When asked about the reason, he replied that only the Detective Branch (DB) could clarify the charges or reasons behind the detention.

Emon hails from Kishoreganj. His father, Md Iqbal, is a freedom fighter and a former general secretary of Karimgonj upazila Awami League.

He joined the police force in 2010 as part of the 28th BCS Police Cadre.

Emon received the IGP Exemplary Good Services Badge in 2016 and the President Police Medal (PPM) in 2017.

Reportedly considered a trusted officer of the now-ousted Awami League government, he was awarded a record 27 times as the Best Circle Officer of Comilla police.

He was promoted to SP in 2022 and later appointed deputy police commissioner (Headquarters & Administration) at the DMP.

Following the fall of the Awami League regime, he was reassigned as SP (Basic Training 2) at the Bangladesh Police Academy.

Recently, show-cause notices were issued to trainee police officers and constables in Sardah with his signature.

He issued these notices on behalf of the academy’s principal.
