Sarjis: Arrests must be made by tonight, or we oppose home ministry, police

Sarjis Alam, the central coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has issued an ultimatum for the arrest of those who attacked students and the public at the residence of former minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur.

He issued this warning during a protest program organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Rajbari Field in Gazipur on Saturday afternoon

Sarjis Alam issued a stern warning, saying: “We are making it clear—those who were involved in the attack at AKM Mozammel’s residence last night must be arrested by today (Saturday). The Ministry of Home Affairs has informed us that 16 individuals have been arrested so far. They will be holding a press briefing later today regarding the arrests and the overall situation. We are no longer willing to believe in mere promises—we demand real action. We will remain here and observe the actions of the administration.

"Until our demands are met and the attackers are behind bars, we will not leave.”

He said that if the interim government, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the police, and intelligence agencies fail to arrest the perpetrators by Saturday night, they will have to stand against them.

Sarjis Alam added: “Terrorists must be eradicated from Bangladesh. We have made it clear that this 'Clean Bangladesh Operation' cannot be a mere two-day arrest campaign. In the coming days, we want to see every terrorist, who occasionally resurfaces from hiding both on social media and in public spaces, behind bars.”

He said: “We stand on the streets of Gazipur and declare that if anyone dares to lay a hand on any of our comrades anywhere in Bangladesh, the entire country will rise again. We are prepared to march to Dhaka, to Gazipur, and to every district if necessary.

"During the uprising, we witnessed the patience of the students and the public in building the true Bangladesh. But patience has its limits. If the authorities push us beyond that limit, they will witness another revolution in this country.”
