BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused Jamaat of deceiving the people by doing politics in the name of Islam.
He said: "You are trying to blame BNP through hints and insinuations. The people know who keeps their promises. Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned, Tarique Rahman has left the country, yet they continue to work to protect the nation. We, the BNP family, stand by the oppressed and helpless. This initiative will continue."
He made these remarks as a special guest at a rally organized by Amrai BNP Paribar at the Sabir Mohammad Pilot High School field in Sonagazi, Feni, on Wednesday.
BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman joined the event virtually as the chief guest.
At the rally, a delegation led by BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, on behalf of Amrai BNP Paribar, handed over the keys to a newly built house to the family of Shaheed Mohammad Masud from Char Chandia village in Sonagazi upazila.
The event was presided over by Amrai BNP Paribar convener Atikur Rahman Ruman.
Additionally, financial aid was provided to the families of martyrs from the 2024 student-popular movement in Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur under the Chittagong division.
The organizational secretary, assistant organizational secretary, and local district BNP leaders from the Chittagong division were also present at the event.
Senior central BNP leaders attended the rally. Amrai BNP Paribar organized financial assistance for BNP-persecuted martyr families and the families of those killed in the anti-discrimination student movement in Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur.
Rizvi said: "Democracy is like butter mixed with poisoned milk. Despite saying they wouldn't participate in elections, they have previously clung to Sheikh Hasina’s sari and contested elections. They have deceived the people every time."
He further commented: "Earlier, Bangladesh had only one enemy, but now many enemies have emerged. Recently, it was seen that a government official was distributing leaflets. The lack of accountability for Awami's accomplices has emboldened them to take such actions. The current government is imposing VAT and taxes on everything, causing difficulties for lower-income people. Should we not protest against these issues? Criticism makes the government aware."
