Cold lingers in Sreemangal as temperature drops to 11.1°C

The winter chill refuses to ease in Moulvibazar, particularly in Sreemangal, the heart of the tea industry, where the cold remains intense.

At 9am on Tuesday, the Sreemangal met office recorded a temperature of 11.1°C.

While the sun broke through the morning fog, bringing some relief, the cold continues to affect low-income residents in hilly areas and tea estates.

Md Anisur Rahman, acting officer at the Sreemangal Weather Observatory, said: "The temperature was recorded at 11.1°C at 9am on Tuesday. Over the past few days, it has been fluctuating between 11°C and 13°C."

Cold-related illnesses are on the rise, particularly among the elderly, children, and individuals with disabilities, leading to an increase in hospital admissions. Livestock are also struggling with the harsh weather.

Jasim Mia, a resident of Sindurkhan, said: "The cold is harsher in rural areas. Since we are surrounded by hills, we have to endure it while working."

Minnat Ali from Baikka Beel Hail added: "The haor (wetland) areas feel even colder. The sun provides some relief, but without it, stepping outside would be unbearable."
