Jubo Dal leader killed in knife attack over OMS queue dispute in Khulna

A leader of the Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the BNP, was fatally stabbed following a dispute with a woman over the queue for Open Market Sale (OMS) flour on Monday.

The deceased, Md Manik Howlader, was the vice president of the Jubo Dal’s Ward No 21 unit.

He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) at around 4:30pm.

Meanwhile, police detained two individuals, identified as Tuli and Sajjad, in connection with the attack.

Md Ahsan Habib, additional deputy commissioner (media) of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), said OMS flour was being sold in Ward 21 in the morning.

He added that a verbal altercation had occurred between Manik and a local woman named Tuli over queuing for flour.

“At about 10:45am, Tuli’s brothers, Mehedi and Sajjad, arrived at the scene. The situation escalated into an argument and a physical altercation, during which they attacked Manik with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

“Local residents rushed Manik to KMCH, where doctors recommended transferring him to Dhaka for advanced treatment. However, he died there before being moved to the capital."

Ahsan confirmed the detention of Tuli and Sajjad for their suspected involvement, adding that further investigation was underway.
