The northern region of Panchagarh is experiencing an intense cold spell, with a moderate cold wave sweeping through the area.
Although the district's temperature hovered between 11 and 13°C in recent days, it dropped to 7.9°C on Sunday morning. However, the morning sunlight provided some relief to the residents.
According to the weather office, the district recorded its lowest temperature of the season, 7.3°C, earlier this winter.
Cold winds flowing from the Himalayas have intensified the chilly weather, increasing the hardships of low-income residents.
Rashedul Islam, a pedestrian, shared his experience. “I walk regularly in the mornings. Although the cold was not intense over the past few days, today it felt much colder and there was mist like rain.”
Usman Gani, an autorickshaw driver from Jangalpara village, said: “I came to the Panchagarh market early in the morning with potatoes. The dense fog and biting cold made it difficult to drive. We suffer a lot during winter, but the sunlight feels good now.”
Meanwhile, Jitendra Nath Roy from the Tetulia weather office, reported: “The temperature in Tetulia remained between 11 and 13°C for the past two days. On Sunday at 9am, the lowest temperature recorded was 7.9°C, with 87% humidity and wind speeds of 8–10 km/h.”
Notably, Panchagarh experienced a mild cold wave until Thursday, with temperatures recorded at 9.8°C.
Earlier, on January 10, the season’s first moderate cold wave hit, recording the season’s lowest temperature of 7.3°C.
