Sarjis Alam: No liquor shops in tea gardens

The chief organizer of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, Sarjis Alam, declared that there would be no liquor shops in tea gardens.

Sarjis Alam made this remark on Sunday at a tea workers' gathering held in the Kurma Tea Estate grounds, located in the border region of Islampur union in Kamolganj upazila, Moulvibazar.

He criticized the autocratic Gopali Hasina, saying that her focus was limited to Dhaka and her hometown Tungipara, neglecting other parts of the country, including the tea industry, where the Sheikh family had also interfered.

He urged tea workers to destroy any liquor shops present in the tea estates.

The gathering, themed “Immediately reopen all National Tea Company estates. Take effective measures to protect workers and the tea industry. Ensure humane wages, education, healthcare, housing, and employment,” was presided over by Dhana Bauri, President of the Bangladesh Tea Workers’ Union, Monu-Dholai Valley.
