Former fisheries and livestock minister and ex-president of the Sirajganj District Awami League Abdul Latif Biswas has been shown arrested in a case concerning the killing of 15 police officers during an attack on Enayetpur Police Station.
The attack took place during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 4.
The attackers killed 15 police personnel and caused damages worth Tk4 crore to the station.
Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Abdul Malek filed a case, naming several individuals and listing 5,000 to 6,000 unidentified attackers as accused.
On Sunday, Abdul Latif Biswas was detained by a joint force operation at Kamarpur area of Belkuchi municipality around 2pm.
Later, he was taken to Sirajganj and shown arrested as a supplementary accused (not originally named in the FIR) in the case, confirmed Enayetpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rowshan Yazdani.
“After his detention, he was brought to Sirajganj. He was shown arrested in the case concerning the attack on Enayetpur Police Station, where 15 police officers were killed. The investigation officer of the case also interrogated him briefly before he was sent to court in the evening,” OC Rowshan Yazdani said.
Inspector Md Asaduzzaman of the court police said: “Abdul Latif Biswas was presented in court at 6:30pm on Sunday. After the hearing, the court ordered his transfer to jail.”
The case, filed by Sub-Inspector Abdul Malek, named prominent figures such as Enayetpur Thana Awami League President Ahmed Mustafa Khan Bacchu, General Secretary Azgar Ali, Khukni Union Parishad Chairman and former Union Awami League President Mulluk Chand, and Vangabari Union Parishad Chairman Jahurul Bhuiyan of Belkuchi.
Additionally, 5,000 to 6,000 unidentified individuals were named as accused.
Although Abdul Latif Biswas was not initially named in the case, he was listed as a supplementary accused, according to Enayetpur Police Station OC Md Rowshan Yazdani.
