Acknowledging the selfless sacrifices of nearly 2,000 young people in the anti-discrimination movement, Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain, Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Labour and Employment, emphasized that their contributions must not be in vain.
He called for collective efforts to move the country forward.
He made this statement as the chief guest at the 56th anniversary and reunion celebration of Khulna Government Sundarban Model College-2025, held on Friday morning.
M Sakhawat Hussain said: “Although Government Sundarban Model College is small in size, it has produced many prominent individuals. The college has contributed greatly to the development of Khulna.”
He also noted that, being an old institution, the college’s infrastructure had not seen the level of improvement it required.
The need for expansion was stressed, with a commitment to inform the Education Adviser about the three development demands raised for the college.
The Adviser said: “At one time, the Mongla Port office was located in Khulna city. To meet the needs of importers, shipping agents, and others, this office should be brought back to Khulna city. He further said: "Mongla Port belongs to Khulna, so it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve and make it more effective.”
It was emphasized that the full development of the port would not be possible without the construction of a container terminal.
Efforts were being made to address this issue and reducing tariffs would encourage more importers to utilize the port, he said.
