Severe cold in Dinajpur disrupts daily life

Severe cold in Dinajpur has disrupted daily life. Bitter cold and chilling winds have made it extremely difficult for low-income families who lack warm clothing. At night, a misty drizzle persists.

Tafazzal Hossain, the in-charge of the Dinajpur Meteorological Office, reported that Wednesday's temperature stands at 10.6°C.The average wind speed is blowing at 4 kilometers per hour.

Due to the wind, the intensity of the cold has increased significantly. Tafazzal Hossain further said that the cold might intensify in the coming days.

Low-income individuals are struggling against the northern winds. Vehicles are operating with headlights even during the day.

People living near rivers are suffering the most.

Agricultural workers and farmers are facing disruptions in farming activities due to the intense cold.

The district administration has allocated only 13,000 blankets for the 13 upazilas of Dinajpur district.

This allocation is far below the requirement. An additional demand for 20,000 blankets has been sent to the ministry, said Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Islam.

The number of patients suffering from cold-related illnesses such as diarrhoea, bronchitis, respiratory problems, and asthma is increasing at Dinajpur Children's Hospital and the General Hospital.

Dr Waresh, a pediatric specialist at Dinajpur Children's Hospital, advised that children and the elderly should avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary.
