3 arrested with weapons looted from police station in Noakhali

Joint forces arrested three youths with weapons looted from Sonaimuri police station in Noakhali during an attack that took place on August 5, following mass protests.

The raid, conducted at 2am on Monday in Nadona Union, recovered a shotgun and 15 rounds of ammunition.

The arrestees are Saimun, 20, Tuhin, 20, and Raihan, 20. 

According to authorities, the trio looted the firearms during the police station attack.

Sonaimuri police officer-in-charge (OC) Morshed Alam said: “On August 5, the Sonaimuri police station was attacked and set ablaze, and various weapons were looted. While most of the looted weapons and ammunition were recovered through joint operations by the police and military, some items remain missing. The arms and ammunition found at Saimun’s residence were among those looted from the station.”

Lieutenant Colonel Rifat Anwar, commander of the Noakhali Army Camp, said: “The arrestees confessed during interrogation. They, along with the recovered weapons, have been handed over to Sonaimuri police station. They were sent to jail through the court.”
