A man named Zahidul Islam has been arrested on charges of killing a wild fishing cat in Naldanga Bazar, Kaliganj Upazila, Jhenaidah.
The arrest was made on Saturday, and a case is being filed against him under Section 34(b) of the Wildlife (Conservation and Protection) Act, 2012.
According to reports, Zahidul Islam killed the fishing cat and hung its body on the back of his easy bike.
The incident came to light on December 19 after a video went viral on social media.
A tea cup filled with tea on its right, "freedom fighter" written on its back, and its body tied with ropes, the scene captured individuals making disrespectful remarks about freedom fighters near the cat, causing widespread outrage.
Following the video's circulation, the Forest Department conducted an investigation.
They confirmed the authenticity of the incident by speaking with local residents, public representatives, and other relevant individuals.
The Forest Department revealed that Zahidul Islam had a history of involvement in wildlife killings.
A general diary (GD) had previously been filed against him for similar activities.
Authorities have assured that strict legal actions will be taken to ensure justice and prevent such incidents in the future.
They emphasized their commitment to protecting wildlife and enforcing the Wildlife Act.
