Railway Ministry Secretary Md Fahimul Islamas announced that the Jamuna rail bridge is set to be inaugurated in late January or early February.
While trains currently operate at reduced speeds over the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, the new rail bridge will allow trains to run at full speed.
Speaking on Friday afternoon during an inspection of the building and platform at Ibrahimabad Station in Tangail, the secretary stated that the Jamuna Rail Bridge was implemented with Jica’s support.
He added that several upcoming projects would also benefit from Jica's assistance.
Among these projects, the Tangail-Gazipur railway line will be upgraded to a double track to enhance passenger convenience.
The secretary expressed satisfaction with the quality of the ongoing projects and noted that additional trains might be introduced on the route if necessary.
The Jamuna Rail Bridge, under construction 300 metres from the existing Jamuna Bridge, will be the country’s longest rail bridge.
Once completed, it will facilitate uninterrupted passage for at least 88 high-speed trains, reducing the time required to cross the river by 20 to 30 minutes.
