A student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) was killed and two others were injured as a car hit their motorcycle in Purbachal’s 300 Feet area in Rupganj, Narayanganj early on Friday.
The deceased was Motasim Masud, 22, a second-year computer science and engineering student.
Injured Amit Saha, 22, and Mehedi Hasan, 21, are from the same department.
Police later detained the car’s driver in connection with the fatal crash.
According to their classmate Faiyaz, Motasim lived in Kalabagan, while Amit and Mehedi are residents of Buet’s Ahsanullah Hall.
Rupganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liakat Ali said Motasim had died on the spot, adding that Amit and Mehedi had been admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital.
The car’s driver, Sadman, had been detained, the OC said, mentioning that two others who had also been in the vehicle had been taken to the police station for questioning.
