Ten people arrested over the killing of Chittagong lawyer Saiful Islam Alif have now been shown arrested in an explosives case.
Chittagong Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam passed the order on Wednesday in response to a police petition.
The 10 people are Chandan Das, Aman Das, Rumit Das, Nayan Das, Gagan Das, Bishal Das, Rajib Bhattacharya, Durlabh Das, Sumit Das, and Sonu Das.
Public Prosecutor Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan mentioned that last month a clash occurred between followers of former Iskcon leader Chinmoy Krishna Das and police on the Chittagong court premises, during which Alif was hacked to death.
"Following the incident, lawyer Alif's brother, Khane Alam, filed a case under the Explosives Act at Kotwali police station. In this case, the investigating officer requested the court to show the 10 individuals, including Chandan Das, the key accused in Alif’s murder, arrested. After the hearing, the court granted the request."
Earlier, on November 26, Chittagong Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam rejected the bail plea of Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Sanatani Jagaran Jote and former Iskcon leader, in a sedition case and sent him to jail.
Following the order, his followers staged protests around the prison van at the court premises, leading to clashes with the police.
During the protests, the demonstrators caused extensive damage in and around the court area.
On Ranggam Convention Hall Road in the area, Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death.
The police said it identified the killers using video footage.
Six cases, including one for murder, were filed in connection with these incidents.
