Section 144 imposed over 2 BNP factions' programs in Kachua

The Bagerhat district administration has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898,  in Kachua upazila to avert potential unrest stemming from programs announced by two rival factions of the BNP.

The restriction will be effective from 10am to 6pm on Tuesday.

On Monday night (December 16), Kachua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) KM Abu Naushad issued an order imposing Section 144 within a 1km radius of the event venues and surrounding areas.

According to the notification, to maintain law and order and ensure public safety, all gatherings, rallies, and the carrying of firearms have been prohibited in and around Goalmath Rashik Lal Secondary School grounds and Majeda Begum Agricultural Technology University premises.

Sources reveal that Majeda Begum Agricultural Technology College authorities have organized a reception program on Tuesday afternoon at the college grounds to honor former Bagerhat-2 MP MAH Selim.

Meanwhile, two days earlier, Kachua Upazila BNP announced a public rally at the nearby Goalmath Rashik Lal Secondary School grounds.

KM Abu Naushad explained, “The event venues are very close to each other. Based on intelligence reports and the prevailing situation, Section 144 has been imposed as a preventive measure to avoid any undesirable incidents.”
