Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has said revised regulations to control noise pollution will be finalized in December.
The updated rules will empower the police to take action against violators, Rizwana said while addressing a noise pollution awareness program in front of Gulshan Society Jame Masjid as chief guest on Friday.
She emphasised that penalties alone are insufficient and efforts must also focus on raising awareness and fostering responsible behaviour among the public.
“Noise pollution adversely affects both our physical and mental health,” she said, urging everyone to contribute to its mitigation.
Addressing drivers, she said: “Assume that your car horn is not functioning—avoid honking unnecessarily. Reducing speed can also minimize accident risks.”
Rizwana also announced special initiatives to tackle noise pollution in 10 key areas of Dhaka, highlighting that collective awareness is essential to building a livable and noise-free city.
Following the event, the adviser visited Gulshan Lake and instructed the relevant authorities to establish a sewage treatment plant to curb pollution in the area.
