The northern district of Kurigram has been experiencing severely cold weather, causing immense suffering to people, especially low-income ones.
The local met office recorded 12 degrees Celsius temperature at 7am on Wednesday, a fall of 3 degrees from Tuesday.
Those living on chars and riverbanks are the worst sufferers as 16 rivers flow across the district.
People are trying to keep themselves warm by igniting fires.
Horse cart driver Sirajul Islam, a resident of Jatrapur union of Kurigram Sadar upazila, said people have been experiencing severe cold for the past few days, which is disrupting their daily lives.
Farmer Saiful Islam from Dharola union of the same upazila said although they prepared seedbeds for Boro, it is difficult to deal with cold water coupled with wind.
Weather office official Subal Chandra Sarkar said the temperature has been fluctuating from 12 to 15 degrees Celsius for the past two weeks.
The district may experience cold waves after the middle of the month, he said.
