5-day Jor Ijtema ends in Tongi, 4 worshippers die

The five-day Jor Ijtema organized by the Shura-e-Nezam faction (supporters of Maulana Zubair) of Tabligh Jamaat concluded on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi, Gazipur, with the Akheri Munajat (final prayer) on Tuesday morning.

The Munajat began at 9:05am and ended at 9:20am.

Maulana Ibrahim Dewla, a senior preacher from India, led the final prayer, during which devotees prayed for global peace, unity among Muslims, forgiveness, and protection from worldly dangers.

Media Coordinator of Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh (Shura-e-Nezam) Habibullah Raihan confirmed that four participants had passed away during the event.

Among the other deceased worshippers are Haider Ali, 35, Kausar Ali, 28, and Abdul Hakim Akand, 72.

The bodies were handed over to their respective families.

Ahead of the final prayer, thousands of Muslims from surrounding areas gathered at the Ijtema ground to take part.

Earlier, Maulana Abdur Rahman from India delivered a guidance sermon for those embarking on Tabligh (preaching).

His speech was recorded by Maulana Abdul Mateen. Maulana Zubair of Bangladesh also addressed the gathering before the Akheri Munajat.

The event, which began on November 29 with the Fajr prayer and Aam Bayan (general sermon), served as preparation for the Biswa Ijtema.

To ensure smooth operations and safety, the administration deployed police, army personnel, and plainclothes officers. Volunteers from the event organizers also worked to prevent chaos or untoward incidents. The event concluded without any security breaches.

The Jor Ijtema serves as preparation for the Biswa Ijtema, where Muslims gather from across the globe. Following the prayers, attendees will embark on missions to propagate the message of Islam.
