Liberation War Affairs Adviser and valiant freedom fighter Farooq-e-Azam has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accomplish everything, including reforms and a fair election.
A historic site of the Liberation War in Kasba, Brahmanbaria, holds the largest martyr's memorial in the country, where 50 brave souls of the Liberation War, including five recipients of gallantry awards, are buried.
On Sunday, the adviser paid homage to these martyrs at the Kollapathar Shaheed Smritistal by laying a wreath and offering prayers for their departed souls.
He visited each grave and later addressed journalists, discussing various national issues.
“You can see a strong atmosphere of unity forming across the nation,” the adviser said.
“We are united, and together, we will reform every sector, including the election process. This is our unwavering commitment. Decisions will be made based on consensus, ensuring no one is left behind,” he said.
He added that the commission formed to oversee reforms is expected to submit its report by mid-December or the second week of January. Once completed, the report will be made public, and after consultations with political parties, citizens, and stakeholders, the government will expedite the election process.
Addressing the issue of fraudulent claims to freedom fighter status, Farooq-e-Azam, said: “Those who falsely claim to be freedom fighters have betrayed the nation. It is our collective responsibility to expose these deceivers.”
He detailed the government's measures to identify fake claimants, including verification through freedom fighter organizations and public reporting of suspicious individuals. “Genuine freedom fighters are well-known within their communities,” he said. “Comprehensive lists have been stored in our records and published online at district, upazila, and union levels. An objection form is also available for anyone who wishes to challenge a claim. This initiative aims to ensure transparency and hold imposters accountable before the nation.”
The adviser was accompanied by senior officials, including Ishrat Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs; Mohammad Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Land) of Brahmanbaria; and other local administrative and police officials.
