Madrasa boy murdered after rape in Rangpur

A 10-year-old madrasa student has been murdered after rape at the Bakultala Jannatbag Madrasa and Lillah Boarding in the Ganeshpur area of Rangpur city.

The police arrested two people involved in the crime, Abdur Rahman, a teacher at the madrasa, and Mokless, a student.

In preliminary questioning, Mokless reportedly admitted to raping Siam.

According to sources from the madrasa and the police, the victim, Siam Islam, the son of carpenter Monowar Hossain Bhuttoo from Buzruk Jhalai village in Mithapukur upazila, was enrolled in the Nazera branch of the madrasa.

On Thursday evening, during the Maghrib prayer, other students came to the madrasa to pray, but Siam did not join them.

Teachers and students began searching for him. After some time, around 9pm, Siam’s lifeless body was found in a room on the third floor of the madrasa building.

When the news spread, the madrasa authorities informed the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station.

Subsquently, police recovered Siam’s body, and sent it for an autopsy at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, confirmed the matter.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Siam was raped and then murdered, with several pieces of evidence found at the scene.

Siam’s father, Monowar Hossain Bhuttoo, has filed a rape and murder case at the police station.

The investigation is ongoing to determine who else may have been involved and whether other students at the madrasa have been victims of similar abuse, said the OC.
